Projects and Crafts

Once we decided we were going to move we had a lot to take care of. When we moved out of our first place we made a decision to sell a lot of our stuff and just take what we needed in our room. This made it a lot easier so that we didn't need to get a storage unit or anything. So that meant we had a lot of things we needed to get for our new place. My parents love yard sales and I sure am grateful because it helps me to save a lot of money on new furniture. Tommy and I have found that we actually really love to redo furniture when we have the time. Here are some of the things that kept us busy before we moved.
I feel so lucky to have a dad who knows how to do pretty much everything. He is a fix it guy and can figure out how to make things or fix them which has saved us a lot of money. It is also something fun we can do together. I was telling my dad that I wanted to a new headboard and he said that he could help us make one so we could save money and get exactly what we wanted. He took the time to plan out everything we would need and how to go about putting the bed together. He made sure we got extra durable wood to ensure that the bed would last a long time. Tommy and my dad went and purchased everything we would need to make the bed. Than Tommy had to go to Az so I was lucky enough to help my dad design the headboard. We used different types of fencing wood to make it cheaper and to make it look different. We stained or painted each piece of wood different colors to give it character. My dad is the best I saw this wood mirror on pinterest and I told my dad I really wanted to make it. I know my dad was tired and ready to be done one night but he was so nice to take the time to make a matching mirror to go with the headboard. It came out awesome. I honestly had so much fun working with my dad on this project. It was so special to me to be able to spend one on one time with my dad and it meant so much to me to be able to learn different things from him. He is just so talented. As we were working on this project it was right around the time of my Grandpa Dons birthday. He passed away a few years ago and my dad inherited lots of his wood shop tools that allowed my dad and I to make this bed. My dad expressed how he missed his dad (to my mom) and how he was grateful to have these tools to be able to use. I also miss my grandparents a lot. I never really think about it or hear my dad complain but he is quite young in my opinion to not have his parents around.. Things about life really do change when grandparents and parents pass away. The thing I have missed most is being able to spend time together with more of our extended family for family gatherings. My am grateful for my dad and my grandpa. I am grateful for all the things my grandpa taught my dad so that he can help us in our family so we can save money and I am grateful we have his tools to use. This was a special project and something I will always be grateful for and something that will always be special to me.

My dad found this beautiful dresser and night stand at a yard sale for only $20. It is solid and in really good condition. I love how it turned out and the grey stain we used on it. A lot of work but the outcome is fun. Again I am so grateful to have my dads help to complete this. It would have not come out so good without his help.

I love being able to decorate my house and trying to spend the least money possible. I had these shower hooks that were black and white and I couldn't find anything shower hooks to match in my bathroom so I decided to repaint them. I had a lot of fun and I loved how they turned out. I also had a really fun craft night with my friend Cassy. She is really talented when it comes to painting and drawing and I was able to help her make these cute signs to go up in my bathroom which I really love. I think they came out really cute.

My sweet husband worked so hard before he came to Arizona to finish this table. I didn't take a before picture but my parents were nice enough to give us their table because they wanted a new one. We were able to sand it, stain it and paint it. Tommy did a great job with my dad's help. We love how it turned out.
We got this dresser when we first got married from a yard sale and the drawers were not very good but we found we love it as a TV stand. We redid it once and decided we wanted a change so Tommy worked really hard and gave it a make over. We love how it turned out.
